Safety and rules on TEEI Mentorship

This page covers who we let in, what we expect of each other, what is not allowed, and the three controls that are yours at any moment.

If something is wrong right now: you can leave a session, report someone, or block them. See how each control works

A mentor profile

Application approved

Before anyone can be booked

Every application is reviewed. TEEI staff review each mentor application before the profile can be listed. Some application routes also ask you to confirm a LinkedIn account.

An approved application carries a mark. It appears only after TEEI has approved the mentor application. The mark records that review decision, not a claim that LinkedIn verified the person.

Sessions happen in your browser. You never need a phone number or an address to take part, and you never have to give one.

It is free, and it stays free. TEEI Mentorship is free. Report anyone who asks for money or offers paid services through the platform.

What we ask of each other

Be kind and respectful. Treat each other the way you would want to be treated. Keep sessions focused on practical support and guidance. Ask first before recording a session or taking screenshots. Show up for a confirmed session, or cancel early so the other person can re-plan. Be patient when someone needs more time to find their words.

What ends an account

Not preferences. Any one of them, once.

  • Asking for or offering money, gifts, or paid services.
  • Sexual, violent, hateful, or otherwise harmful content or behaviour.
  • Harassment or discrimination of any kind.
  • Pressuring anyone to move off the platform, share contact details, or meet in person.
  • Using the platform to advertise, recruit, sell, or collect data.
  • Pretending to be someone you are not.

An account can be removed for any of these, without warning. If you are not sure whether something crossed the line, report it and let us decide. Deciding is our job, not yours.

The three controls that are yours

They work during a session and after it, and you never have to explain why you used one.

How each control works

Select a control. One side is what you do. The other is what they see afterwards.

Thursday

What they are told

Nothing

Not that a report exists, and not who wrote it. Their screen does not change at all.

What happens

The report reaches TEEI staff carrying the reason you chose, anything you wrote, and the conversation or session it came from.

What we can see

Those three things. A report does not attach your other conversations to itself.

Undoing it

A report cannot be withdrawn once it is sent. If you change your mind, write to us and say so.

What happens after a report

Reporting is not a message to the other person. It is a case that people at TEEI read.

  1. It reaches TEEI staff, carrying the reason you chose, anything you wrote, and the conversation or session it came from.

  2. Staff read it and look at the account it names, together with the history around what you reported.

  3. If one of the rules above was broken, the account is paused or removed. If something is unclear, staff come back to you and ask.

  4. Your name stays out of all of it. The person is never told who reported them, and never told that a report exists.

If you are a mentee

  • You can cancel a booking request you sent, end a session, or stop using TEEI Mentorship at any time.
  • If a mentor is not the right fit, simply book someone else.
  • You never have to answer a question or share anything you are not comfortable with.

If you are a mentor

  • You must be 18 or older.
  • Keep clear, kind, professional boundaries. You are here to help with the mentee’s practical goals, not to give legal, medical, or financial advice.
  • If a mentee shares something that makes you worry about their safety or wellbeing, tell TEEI staff.

Your information

We only ask for what we need to manage accounts and mentoring sessions. Notification delivery follows your settings and the channels currently enabled. You decide what goes in your profile and what you share during a session. You never have to share contact details. You can update your profile details and delete your account in Settings. Changing the account email is not available yet.

In an emergency, contact your local emergency services first.

Questions, or something you want to report? Email us at support@theeducationalequalityinstitute.org. You will never be in trouble for raising a concern in good faith.
